Discover Dog Sledding Travels – 4 Days (Customizable)

Welcome to Whitehorse! After meeting you at your hotel in the morning, we’ll get you sized up in our rental gear and do a quick check of your personal gear. Then it’s up to the ranch to meet your dog team and install yourself in our cozy log cabin. Your guide will teach you the art of driving your sled as well as how to harness and set up the dogs.  After lunch, we’ll go out on our first ride, covering about 15-20 km on open the open plateaus and valleys around the Ranch. When we return, you’ll learn how to prepare food and feed your team (the perfect way to bond with dogs). Then we’ll prepare the gear for our three-day expedition.  Dinner at the ranch will include local wild game or fish and discussion on the history of dog mushing in the Yukon in the evening. Have a good night of sleep in our warm log cabin.

After a last gear check, we’ll pack the sleds and head out for our three-day expedition. On our first day, we’ll travel 28 km across a beautiful mountain lake and steep-sided valley to reach our camp, where we’ll spend two nights. At camp, with the help of your guide, you’ll learn the dog care camp routine (including feeding, preparing straw bedding, and putting on dog coats). This helps to further your bond with the team. Then it’s time to gather firewood and put up the tents for our comfortable winter camp.

Your guide will cook dinner on a campfire, serving delicious wild game meat or fish with unique local flavours. Warmed by the fire, your guide will captivate you with fascinating facts about sled dogs’ abilities and the origin of the unique glacial landforms, to be seen the day after. If the sky is clear, we can walk five minutes to a great observation point and look for northern lights*, also called aurora borealis.

The night will be spent in a warm, wood-heated tent with top-of-the-line camping equipment to ensure your comfort.

After a quick but hearty breakfast we’ll get the dogs ready for the day and pack a lunch to take on the trail. Today we travel into a wide glacial valley surrounded by peaks reaching 2100m. Keep an eye out as the alpine open valley is home to wood bison. You’ll also get to examine and learn more about the unique glacial landforms your guide told you about the previous evening.

When we get back to camp, most of the setup work is already done! We will feed and care for the dogs before enjoying a hot beverage by campfire. After another delicious dinner you have the option of taking part in a winter survival workshop. We will once again keep an eye on the sky for northern lights before falling asleep in our warm, wood-heated tent.

After feeding the dogs and enjoying a relax Canadian-style breakfast, we’ll work as a team to dismantle camp. We’ll follow new sections of trails back to the ranch, travelling 27 km with spectacular views.

When we’ll arrive back at the ranch, we’ll first reward the dogs for their hard work and then sit by a warm fire place for a warm beverage or beer. We’ll then drive you to your hotel in Whitehorse, where you can enjoy a hot shower in your cozy room and a celebratory group dinner with your guide.
